Hotmail Removing Ridiculous Ads From The Bottom Of Emails

imageLast week Microsoft FINALLY realized the error in their ways and announced that they would be removing ads from the footers of emails for all Hotmail/Live users.  Although I’m not personally a Hotmail user, I do receive a lot of email from people who are, so this will be nice!

With the announcement from the Windows Live team on Friday (6/11/2010) I was hoping to see the change already implemented. However, it looks like this is a larger initiative based on the “New Hotmail” and Office 2010 Online launches.

hotmail announced to remove email ads

Still, in search of a possible date, I went back to the original blog post. About 3/4 the way through, it pretty much says “With our next release.”  So for now, the Ad Removal date is TBD until we hear something new.

Well, sure, it’s nice, but, who really cares? Not me, and probably not a lot of people. Most people who use Hotmail probably don’t even realize it gets attached.

I don’t use it personally either however I do get a lot of email from other people who use Hotmail and the ads on the bottom of the emails have always been annoying especially when they start stacking up on the bottom of the mails as we go back in forth in the conversation.

Perhaps I should rename the article to “Good news to people who RECEIVE emails from Hotmail”. ;)

Good point. Bad work on M$’s part not having a check in place to remove duplicates.

Hotmail has become an unpleasant endurance test in the last year. Too many “improvements” that no one wants. Like “calendar” (I don’t need to be reminded that it is my birthday!) and Boomerang invading my life. I will not buy Microsoft again.
