Need to check your internet speed? There’s a new tool that allows you to check internet speed from Microsoft Edge.

Microsoft continues to add new features to its Microsoft Edge browser. Starting with Edge version 124.0.2478.80, you can measure your internet speed directly from the toolbox.

The new feature is powered by our favorite speed tool from You can access this new tool from the Edge sidebar to measure your internet speeds. So, if you aren’t a fan of opening a new tab and going to or other speed test sites, you can use this helpful tool in Edge.

Note: If you don’t see the feature, ensure that you update Microsoft Edge so that you are running version 124.0.2478.80 or higher.

If you want to check your internet speed from Edge, you can take the following steps.

  1. Launch Microsoft Edge.
  2. Click the Tools icon in the right panel.Tools icon Edge sidebar
  3. If you don’t see it, click the Sidebar button in the top right corner of the sidebar.Sidebar button microsoft edge
  4. Once the Tools open, you will see the Internet speed test at the top of the options. Click the Start button.start speed test from microsoft edge tools
  5. Edge will open a new page, and the speed test will start to run.starting speed test

That’s all there is to it! Once you know your internet speed, you can make appropriate adjustments if you are troubleshooting. Or, if you have a fiber connection, maybe you want to show off your speed to friends and colleagues. Also, if you aren’t getting the speeds you pay for, ensure you contact your ISP and tell them to fix it on their end.

Having the tool open to a new page is kind of irksome. Hopefully, Microsoft and will work on the development. For instance, it would be nice if the speed was measured solely by clicking the start button and then getting your measurements directly in the tool. Still, this is more convenient than going to speed test sites like or opening a tab to go to directly.

In addition, you can click another speed test utility by clicking the Explore more tools button. Once you select it, you’ll see options like Ookla,, and others to compare results. It also includes tools to create QR codes, a typing test, a stopwatch, and more.

    Tried this. When I clicked “Start” Edge pened a new search results page on bing, with ookla at the top. Did not lead me directly into a speedtest.

      I found the same thing, Stephen, running the dev version of Edge. It seems the stable release version is the only one that opens it in a tab and starts the speed test on its own.
