If you change your mind, you can reverse a return to Amazon that you’ve initiated. Here’s how to cancel an Amazon return.

You’ve accidentally ordered a product on Amazon that you didn’t want, using the one-click ordering option. You’ve tried to cancel the order, but it’s already shipped. On the Amazon app or website, you go through the process to submit the product for a return.

Before you send the item back, however, you realize that the item that you’ve been sent is quite useful, and you want to keep it. Is it too late to change your mind?

The good news is that it’s not too late at all. You can easily cancel the return, meaning that you won’t need to send the item back and can keep it. You obviously won’t receive a refund, since you’re now keeping the item that you paid for.

If you’ve changed your mind about returning an item you bought on Amazon, then here’s how to cancel an Amazon return.

How to Cancel an Amazon Return on Mobile

If you want to cancel your Amazon return, you can do so directly through the mobile app. You’ll need to locate the return request in the orders on your Amazon account to do so.

1. Open the Amazon app and tap the Profile icon.
   
2. Tap Your Orders.
   
3. Search through your orders and select the product that you have requested a return for. It should display Return Started next to the product.
   
4. Under the Return Started section, tap View Return/Refund Status.
   
5. Tap the Manage Return button.
   
6. At the bottom of the screen, tap Cancel Return.
   
7. Tap Cancel Return again to confirm your decision.
   

How to Cancel an Amazon Return on Desktop

You can also cancel an Amazon return by signing into your Amazon account on the Amazon website on a desktop or laptop. The steps are a little different from how it’s done on mobile.

1. Sign in to your Amazon account on your browser.
2. Click Returns & Orders at the top of the screen.
   
3. Scroll through your orders until you find the product you’ve started a return for. It should read Return Started in the order.
   
4. Click the View Return/Refund Status button.
   
5. Click Manage Return.
   
6. At the bottom of the pop-up window, click the Cancel Return button.
   
7. Click Cancel Return to confirm your decision.
   

Can I Cancel an Amazon Return Once I’ve Shipped the Item?

If your item has been shipped before you realize that you don’t want it, you’ll probably need to arrange a return. When you request a return, you will often be directed to return the item to Amazon. There are several ways this can happen from printing your own postage label to taking the item to an approved mail center.

Once you have shipped the item back to Amazon, you will probably no longer be able to cancel your return. After this point, the return and refund will be processed by Amazon. However, you can always purchase the item again if you’ve changed your mind.

Can I Redo an Amazon Return After it’s Canceled?

We all change our minds sometimes, and sometimes we can change our minds about changing our minds. There may be occasions where you change your mind about changing your mind about changing your mind.

You might decide that you don’t want an item that you’ve ordered from Amazon and request a return. Then you decide that you do want the item, and cancel the return using the methods above. But what if you change your mind again, and decide you do want to return the item after all?

The good news is that if you cancel an Amazon return, you still have the option to start the return process again for the same item. Once your return has been canceled, your item will appear in your orders the same as all your other items, unless you’ve archived the order, so you can opt to return it once again.

What if I Have Already Been Refunded For an Amazon Return?

If you have already been refunded for your item, it may still be possible to cancel your Amazon return. You can request to reverse the refund; this will take the payment once more from the same payment method that you were refunded to. You’ll then be able to keep the item and won’t need to return it. You’ll need to ensure that your payment method is still valid for the payment to go through; Amazon doesn’t accept payments from sites such as PayPal.

How Long Do Amazon Returns Take to Process?

Many Amazon returns are accepted almost instantly and will provide you with information on the various methods of how to return your item. If you are asked for more details or documents related to your return, then your return may be held up until these have been reviewed.

Amazon says that you should hear back within 7 days of submitting the requested information, as long as you reply to the request within 72 hours. If you wait longer than this, the return request may be put on hold and is likely to take a little longer.

If you have requested to reverse a refund you’ve already received, your payment method should be charged again within five business days. You’ll receive an email confirmation once the payment is taken.

What if the Seller Refuses an Amazon Return?

Amazon has something called the A-to-Z Guarantee. This means that if you have an issue with a third-party seller over a return or refund, Amazon may be able to help directly. They will look into your case and decide whether or not you’re eligible for a refund. If you are, Amazon will process the return and refund, ensuring that you get your money even if the third-party seller won’t pay up.

What Are Legitimate Reasons for Requesting a Refund on Amazon?

Amazon is usually pretty good at refunding money for products you’ve brought directly from the company. In some circumstances, if the issue is Amazon’s fault, you may not even need to return the item to receive a refund.
