You’ve accidentally ordered a product on Amazon that you didn’t want, using the one-click ordering option. You’ve tried to cancel the order, but it’s already shipped. On the Amazon app or website, you go through the process to submit the product for a return.

Before you send the item back, however, you realize that the item that you’ve been sent is quite useful, and you want to keep it. Is it too late to change your mind?

The good news is that it’s not too late at all. You can easily cancel the return, meaning that you won’t need to send the item back and can keep it. You obviously won’t receive a refund, since you’re now keeping the item that you paid for.

How to Cancel an Amazon Return on Mobile

If you want to cancel your Amazon return, you can do so directly through the mobile app. You’ll need to locate the return request in the orders on your Amazon account to do so.

  1. Open the Amazon app and tap the Profile icon.

  3. Search through your orders and select the product that you have requested a return for. It should display Return Started next to the product.

How to Cancel an Amazon Return on Desktop

You can also cancel an Amazon return by signing into your Amazon account on the Amazon website on a desktop or laptop. The steps are a little different from how it’s done on mobile.

  1. Sign in to your Amazon account on your browser.
  2. Click Returns & Orders at the top of the screen.

  3. Scroll through your orders until you find the product you’ve started a return for. It should read Return Started in the order.

Can I Cancel an Amazon Return Once I’ve Shipped the Item?

If your item has been shipped before you realize that you don’t want it, you’ll probably need to arrange a return. When you request a return, you will often be directed to return the item to Amazon. There are several ways this can happen from printing your own postage label to taking the item to an approved mail center.

Once you have shipped the item back to Amazon, you will probably no longer be able to cancel your return. After this point, the return and refund will be processed by Amazon. However, you can always purchase the item again if you’ve changed your mind.

How Long Do Amazon Returns Take to Process?

Amazon says that you should hear back within 7 days of submitting the requested information, as long as you reply to the request within 72 hours. If you wait longer than this, the return request may be put on hold and is likely to take a little longer.
