Instagram Video Not Uploading: 7 Fixes

Instagram is a popular social networking service that allows you to post comments, photos, and video clips. However, it’s annoying when you’re dealing with your Instagram video not uploading.

Sometimes you’ll run into a problem where Instagram fails to upload videos. Reasons for the problem include network connectivity, issues with the app, your device, or the video itself.

If you are having an issue getting your videos uploaded to Instagram, we’ll show you seven fixes that you can try to ensure your videos are available for your followers to view.

1. Check the Mobile Device’s Network Connection

One of the first places to check is the phone network connectivity. If you don’t have a valid Wi-Fi or cellular connection, your Instagram videos simply won’t upload.

Temporarily toggle Airplane Mode on and off to reset the network connection and try uploading your video again. You should also double-check that you’re connected to the correct Wi-Fi network or that your mobile data connection is active.

2. Restart Instagram

Closing the reopening of the Instagram app and trying the upload again can help fix your Instagram video not loading properly.

This is a simple fix—just make sure you close and reopen the app completely before trying again.

3. Clear Instagram Cache on Android

If you’re using Instagram on Android, an excellent way to improve overall app performance is to clear your Instagram app cache files. That will clear potentially corrupt app data and history that adds up quickly.

To clear Instagram cache on Android:

  1. Open Settings > Apps & notifications.
  2. Select Storage & cache from the menu and click the Clear cache button.

Unfortunately, if you’re on iOS, the only way to clear Instagram’s cache is to reinstall the app.

4. Disable Data Saver Mode

As its name implies, Data Saver Mode limits loading videos if you’re connected to a cellular network. However, it could be interfering with your videos uploading to Instagram. No worries. It’s basic enough to turn off.

To disable data saver mode:

  1. Launch Instagram on your phone, select your profile button, and select the Menu button in the top right corner.
  2. Select Settings and privacy from the menu that appears.
  3. Search for Data and select Data usage and media quality.Instagram Video Not Uploading
  4. Toggle off the Use less cellular data option—this will ensure your mobile photos upload while on the go.Instagram Video Not Uploading

5. Disable High-Quality Video Uploads

If you have your videos set to upload in high quality, the uploading takes more time and may not happen at all. This is especially true on slow or shoddy data connections. High-quality video uploads can cause them not to load at all.

To fix the issue, open Instagram and select menu button > Settings and privacy, then search for Data in the search bar. Select the Data usage and media qualify option, then toggle off the Upload at highest quality switch in the Data usage menu.

6. Upgrade Instagram App

Of course, app updates provide new features, security fixes, and feature updates. There could be a bug with the app that’s just waiting for a bug fix from an update not causing Instagram videos not to upload.

Luckily, updating your apps is simple. If you are running Instagram on Android, check out how to update apps on Android. Or, if you’re running Instagram on iPhone or iPad, check out how to update apps on iOS.

7. Check Instagram Down Status

Even the best services go down from time to time. If Instagram is down when you are trying to upload videos, it simply won’t work. You can check a service like Downdetector to determine if Instagram is down.

If it is, wait for it to come back on. With global services like Instagram, it should only take a few minutes until the service returns (unless there’s a major outage).

Keep Uploading Videos to Instagram

Several factors are at play if you are having trouble uploading videos to Instagram. However, using one of the above steps should get the service working again so you get your videos up and viewable.
