Microsoft Releases New Firmware for Surface Pro and Surface Book

Microsoft released new firmware updates for its flagship Surface devices yesterday. The updates apply to the Surface Book, Surface Pro 3 and Pro 4.

Microsoft released new firmware updates for its flagship Surface devices this week. The updates, which apply to the Surface Book, Surface Pro 3 and 4 addresses of a range of issues including hibernation, graphics, screen flickering, and even audio.

Here’s a rundown of what is fixed according to Microsoft’s Surface Update History page.

New April 2016 Firmware Updates for Microsoft Surface devices

Surface Book

  • Surface System Aggregator Firmware update (v88.1134.257.0) addresses a case where after you resume the Surface Book device from hibernation and detach the clipboard, the auto-rotate feature does not work.
  • Surface UEFI update (v88.1121.768.0) addresses screen flickering in Microsoft Edge and other applications.
  • Intel(R) HD Graphics 520 driver update (v20.19.15.4409) improves the overall stability of the graphics driver, resolves screen flickering in several popular applications, and cases where the display does not reinitialize correctly after the device resumes from sleep or hibernation.
  • Intel(R) Display Audio driver update (v8.20.0.865) supports compatibility with the updated HD Graphics Family driver.
  • NVIDIA GeForce GPU driver update (v10.18.13.6200) adds support for some of the latest popular games.

How to Install Surface Firmware Update

Windows 10 – Start > Settings > Update & security > Check for Updates.

Windows 8.1 – Press Windows key + R then type: wuapp then hit Enter, click Check for Updates.
