Amazon Announces Updated Echo Show 8, Echo Show 5, and New Kids Version
Amazon today is announcing new 2nd-generation versions of its Echo Show devices with improved cameras and a Kids edition.
Amazon today announced a new 2nd-generation Echo Show 8, Echo Show 5, and the first Echo Show 5 Kids edition. The Echo Show devices are gaining in popularity and the new version comes with better cameras and an improved Alexa experience. The company is also launching the first Echo Show Kids edition.
New Echo Show 8 with 13MP Wide-Angle Camera
The new Echo Show 8 model has an 8-inch HD adaptive color display. It also features a 13-megapixel camera with a built-in camera shutter. Inside the device is powered by a new octa-core processor. It also has dual stereo speakers for clear and balanced sound. The updated camera automatically pans and zooms while on a video call. This makes sure everyone is centered in the frame.
The call experience is also getting an update. According to Amazon’s announcement:
To add some fun to an Alexa call, soon you’ll be able to simply tap on the screen to choose from animated visual and audio in-call reactions, like hearts, laughs, or confetti. You will also be able to turn on in-call Augmented Reality (AR) effects, so you can appear in street art, a classic painting, and more. Support for Zoom also means you can quickly join meetings with coworkers, friends, and family by just saying, “Alexa, join my Zoom meeting.”
Prime members get unlimited full-resolution cloud photo storage with Amazon Photos and the adaptive color display will help make photos look good in any lighting condition. The new Echo Show 8 featuring a 13-megapixel and a wide-angle camera starts at $129.99.

New Echo Show 5
The new Echo Show 5 includes a 5.5” display, updated camera, and comes in three different colors including Charcoal, Glacier, and Deep Sea Blue. The new model costs just $84.99 ($5 cheaper than the outgoing model). The Show 5 has a 2MP camera with 1080p resolution. This is a 1MP upgrade from the outgoing model which includes 720p resolution.
