Amazon is rolling out a major overhaul of its Kindle mobile app for Android and iOS this week. Here’s a look at what you can expect.

Amazon is rolling out a major update of its Kindle mobile app for Android and iOS this week. It includes an all-new design and makes it much easier to turn your phone or tablet into a book that you can read anywhere. It makes it easier to flip between pages and find other items while you’re on the go.

This is a big overhaul for the Kindle app and the result is essentially a brand new product. “The all-new Kindle app that makes it easier than ever to turn your phone or tablet into a book—so you can read anytime, anywhere,” an Amazon announcement notes. “We’ve built the new Kindle app from the ground up for book lovers, giving readers easy access to everything they might want to do with their books, all in one place,” said Chuck Moore, Vice President, Kindle. Whether you use Android or iOS, here’s a look at what you can expect.

There are several new features in this major app update. Here is a look at the biggest changes.

  • All New Interface. Amazon says this new designed was inspired by books and aimed at book lovers. The new look and feel feature larger book covers, new light and dark backgrounds, a new app icon, and new fonts.
  • New Easy Search. The search bar is now always available throughout the app. Whether a book is in your library or in the Kindle Store, this will make it easier to find it.
  • One-tap Access. At the bottom of the screen is a new navigation bar that automatically displays the icon of the book you’re reading. It also allows you to switch between pages, your library, and more.
  • Goodreads iOS Integration. Goodreads is an Amazon subsidiary with 65 million members and is built in the new Kindle app. It allows you to interact with the Goodreads community of readers who like similar books. You can share notes and highlights of sections you’ve added to your books. Currently, this is only supported in the iOS version with Android support coming in a future release.

This new Kindle app comes at a time when the company is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Kindle. Right now, virtually everything Kindle is on sale. From the eReaders to Amazon’s Kindle services, right now is a good time to get a new device and stock up your eBook library.
