Today Microsoft released almost a dozen updates to its various operating systems including Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, and Server 2008. The updates/fixes include everything from 100+ game fixes/performance improvements to an update for the Windows Activation Service and Windows Media Player.
Here’s the most notable:
- Update for Windows 7 (KB976264) – Fixes for ~100+ Games and Applications
- Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB977716) – Fix for Windows 7 Media Center
- Update for Windows 7 (KB976662) – IE8 Update fixing JSON interoperability
- Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB978632) – Windows 7 Media Center Update
- Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB976422) – Adds compatibility to Windows 7 to use SD (Security Digital) cards larger than 32 Gigs)
- Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows 7 (KB977863)
- Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB978637) – Application Stability Update
On any given day I would call most of these somewhat necessary to install. It’s surprising to see such a large group of important updates to be released all on the same day. My recommendation is to go out and grab these all ASAP from Windows Update if you haven’t done so already. KB976264 looks particularly interesting to me as it contains patches, updates, and fixes to 100+ games and applications.

My last Windows update was done on 23/2. Above you say there are new updates (for Windows 7, Media Centre, etc). When I check for these updates in Windows Update I am told I am up to date with all updates. My Windows 7 is x64 based. Why?

You have a update (KB976264) but when you try to get to the download but6ton you run into a brick wall. I live in an area where all we can have is dialup and I have tried for two days now with no results. If thats the best you can do I guess I will have to do without.
