Google Picasa get’s a Picnik Upgrade!

Google’s free photo hosting service, Picasa, just got a fresh new upgrade called – Picnik! Picnik is a free online photo editing service Google acquired back in May, and now that they’ve combined the two services, it feels like a match made in heaven.

Using Picnik, you can now easily edit, retouch, add funny effects and stickers, and change the exposure, shadows, highlights etc. etc., etc. Picnik is one of the best out there when it comes to online photo editors – and now, with the simple-to-use integration with Picasa Web Albums, it’s a definite Wow! Very groovy indeed!

Here’s a shot of what it looks like when editing a photo:

From a cost standpoint, Picasa Web will continue to be free. However, to use some of the most advanced features of Picnik, you will need to subscribe to the “Premium” service which for now is $2.08 per month. It’s affordable. But for most of us, the basics should be good enough.

Overall, Picnik is a very nice addition to Google’s already popular Picasa Web Albums. Now if only they would give us more free space and not try to steal my face!
