It’s a New Year, and lots of us are trying to lose weight. Part of losing that weight and getting in shape is calorie counting. If you’ve looked in the iTunes App store, you see many of these apps. We want to hear from you, our readers!

So — we’re asking our readers which apps they like best and why. After a week, we’ll organize the comments and develop a guide. Prepare to be quoted in the article. I’m a fan of Lose It, but CARROT Hunger is lots of fun. So, please drop a comment below answering the following:

I use FitBit because I have a FitBit. I also have used MyFitnessPal. They seem equal to me. But actually I don’t track calories anymore. I just wait until I start feeling ashamed or short of breath then I stop eating.

My cardiologist recommended LOSE IT! and I’ve been using it for two years now. I subscribe to the paid version and it is very good.

My favorite app was LoseIt. It was easy to use and track what I ate and exercise I did. Best part…it was free and I didn’t have to spend $100 or more for some wrist thing that I would barely use.

I’ve been a fan of “Lose it!” for a long long time…. Been tracking things on it for the past 3 years? I like how it comes pre-loaded and then saves my commonly eaten foods and it also has the data for most of the places I eat.

What I don’t like is how it has ads :( That’s a bummer since I don’t want to pay for the premium service.

That said, I will still vote for it.

Really liked and used LoseIt!, but switched to MyFitnessPal when it integrated well with the Withings HealthMate App and products (trackers, scales, Blood Pressure Monitor, etc.(

Fitbit (I love it for the sleep aspect as well as the calories burned while walking) which blends seamlessly with the free version of MyFitnessPal. My sister and I have lost 55 lbs between us, and we have kept it off. Great program and goes well with devices. I use an iPhone and iPad.

The problem with MyFitnessPal and LoseIt etc. is that they just pull numbers out of a database somewhere. It’s hardly ever accurate for homemade food. My mom for example was trying to use an app to track what she eats… she tried MFP then LoseIt for a while and gave up. None of these apps would have the food that she eats, and she never had patience to keep adding new stuff.
The only thing that has worked with her is this photo food journal app called Calorious. It is simple to use, is free and has no ads. It uses community driven estimation system which makes it fun to use. I have been using it for a good 6 months now and really like it too.

My favorite app for tracking calories is YAZIO – really easy to use, great design and many helpful features! What I like most about it is how easy it is to use. The interface is really user-friendly and everything can be easily understood. I was a total beginner when I started my weight loss journey and didn’t know anything about macros or healthy eating, but YAZIO helped me to learn a lot about nutrition and being more conscious about what you eat. Thanks to the app I already lost 50 lbs! If anyone is interested the website is https://www.yazio.com/en .
