If you’re a student making your way through math class, it can be helpful to have a tutor. Then again, there are several reasons why a tutor won’t work out; money, time, personality, smell, etc. Good news! Microsoft has created a stand-alone program which can act as your virtual tutor and help with not only solving complex equations but also teaching you how they work. If you’re still on basic math, don’t fret as the program is a great tool for solving simple problems too. Besides, why write all of your math out by hand if you can do it on a computer?!

*Before *you get too excited, there is one small thing to note. Typically, groovyPost only focuses on and recommends freeware to all our readers. Microsoft Math, unfortunately, is not Freeware, and it costs around $20. There IS a 30-day free trial you can use but yeah, it’s not free. Sorry.

*Now, back to the review:* In Worksheet mode you can enter any equation you like, and Microsoft Math will give you a solution. The calculator on the left contains functions and numbers, or you can manually type out your equations. If you don’t like using the keyboard, you can enable drawing mode and write your equations. Once you’ve solved your equation, you can automatically graph it, or just continue writing equations that are tracked on your worksheet.

When you enter graphing mode there are a variety of things you can do; draw functions, modify equations, insert data sets, define new parameters, plot inequalities, and track individual graph axis and changes. Geometry has met its match!

If you’re looking to graph a more challenging equation Microsoft Math supports 3D graphing as well.

A groovy built-in tool is the Triangle Solver. With the Triangle Solver, you can enter the known parameters of a triangle and then it will automatically solve and fill in the remaining sides and angles. To help you to be able to visualize the math, an accurate triangle figure will be generated using your inputs.

Probably the most useful part of Microsoft Math is the Solution steps. Whenever you solve an equation, a dialog will be available that will explain the process used to solve the problem. If the equation took multiple steps to solve, then each step will be displayed and explained, much like a teacher or textbook would advise.

Think this might be useful for your mathematical endeavors? **Download Microsoft Math** and give it a go!

I pray to the lord I never need to use this again heheeh… no kids and no plans to go back to school baby!

I gotta agree there, everyone I knew disliked math. Including me!

Ah, wow. I did not know about this program. I just tried it out and it can do a hell of a lot more than my TI Graphing Calculator.. I might just have to buy it 😀 (Way more cheaper than a graphing calculator too)

great point! A decent graphing calculator can easily run you into the $100’s.

Just looked at the prices of some on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=graphinc+calculator

Yeah, it’s almost ridiculous. Some better ones can cost in the 200-300 range.

I cant seem to find away to export the solution steps which is a shame be nice to be able to make worksheets using all the steps

Thank you, I’ve just been searching for information approximately this subject for a while and yours is the greatest I’ve came upon till now. But, what in regards to the bottom line? Are you positive in regards to the source?|What i do not realize is actually how you are no longer really a lot more smartly-favored than you may be now. You are very intelligent.
