In the army and need durable binoculars for night vision? Then the Sony DEV series is not a good choice. If you’re a sailor, tourist or fisherman, however, and want quality 3D video and photos, then the upcoming Sony DEV-3 and DEV-5 is a solid choice.
The Sony DEV-3 and DEV-5, which are expected in November, are Sony’s latest high-end digital binoculars. The expected MSRP is $1399.99 for the DEV-3, and $1599.99 for the DEV-5.
The Sony Dev series binoculars will record 3D videos in Full 1080p HD and take 3D photos with 7.1 megapixel resolution. Sony’s binoculars have quite a lot to offer both for casual and advanced users. Each model is equipped with a f/1.8-3.4, 0.5-10x lens offering 10x optical zoom and will support additional accessories like a GPS unit and a special carrying case. But won’t come included. If you want those accessories, you’re looking at an additional another $600 or so.
Both models will also have support for Memory Stick PRO Duo and SDXC memory cards and are rumored to have a large amount of built in memory too. The DEV-3 and DEV-5 also hide 3.5 mm jack audio inputs for a microphone and headphones. They also provide an HDMI out port for connecting to a TV or monitor.
If it’s time to replace that family camera with a new massive DSLR, with 3D capability, Sony’s new line of binoculars are expensive, but alternative choices should be looked at by the price conscious photographers.
