Last week Yahoo announced it would start to free up Yahoo IDs that have been inactive for at least 12 months and reset them. This is a way for the company to allow new users to get an ID that’s “fresh” and and easier to remember. So instead of having something like firstname.lastname@example.org, users will have the opportunity to get brianb@yahoo instead.
According to a post on its Tumblr account, the company said that if you want to keep your current Yahoo ID, you just need to log in before the middle of next month:
What if you haven’t logged into Yahoo! for over a year, but want to keep your Yahoo! ID? It’s easy. All you have to do is log on to any Yahoo! product before July 15th.
If you haven’t checked out Yahoo Mail in quite a while, the company has recently revamped it’s service and mobile apps. If you still care about your Yahoo account, or want a new one, this is a good time to see if you can get the ID you want.
