There’s More Google Chromecast Apps Out There Than You Think

When you tap to show more apps in the Chromecast app from Google, it gives you a list of about 12 apps. But there’s a lot more and here’s how to find them.

Google provided developers access to the Chromecast SDK this year. Now more and more apps are starting to surface. However, they aren’t the easiest ones to find in the Google Play Store and you might be under the impression there’s only a few available, but there’s a lot more, and they can be accessed easily.

When you tap the button to show more apps in the Chromecast app from Google, it gives you a list of about 12 apps. These apps are from the so-called “big players” in streaming entertainment. Apps like ESPN, Netflix, Hulu Plus, Pandora, HBO Go – are displayed, and it gives you the impression that those are the only ones available.

While it does let you quickly filter those apps available by News, Apps and Games…it also lets you check those that are highest rated by other users, and it lists all new releases since your last visit. It also allows you to filter out results between free and paid apps.

I actually ran across the Videostream app I wrote about yesterday on it and have a lot more that I want to test out now too. If you’re looking for a way to explore and discover new and useful apps for Chromecast this is a must install.

It’s by far the easiest way to find new Chromecast apps worth installing on your Android device and using with the $35 dongle on your HDTV.

I can’t hide that I’m slightly disappointed by this article. I was expecting more out-of-the-box goodies. There hasn’t been much side-track developing has there? Cast apps that require some extra tinkering would be nice, like “Mirror” (which seems to have disappeared from Play).
