Amazon is releasing an all-new Fire HD 8 which is the first tablet that includes the digital assistant Alexa. Alexa is the brains behind the Amazon Echo smart speaker and included in Fire TV.

This new version of the Fire HD 8 tablet is available in 16GB and 32GB versions, includes 50 percent more RAM at 1.5MB, a 189ppi / 1280x 800 display and a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor. Amazon touts it will get up to 12 hours of battery life. Just like the previous model it has front and rear facing cameras and Dolby Audio.
It’s also available in four different colors which include Black, Blue, Magenta, and Tangerine.
While the hardware has received an upgrade, the real story here is the software and the digital assistant Alexa. According to the description:
- Now with Alexa, a cloud-based voice service that provides quick access to the entertainment you want, including music, games, audiobooks, and more. Ask questions, shop, find news, weather, and more – just press the home button and ask. (Coming soon)
It’s also worth mentioning that if you have the old model, you’ll be getting Alexa as well. The company says it will be coming in the form of an upgrade to Fire OS 5.4 which will be coming soon.
The new Fire HD 8 goes for $89.99, is available for pre-order now, and will be released on September 21st.
