The right click Context Menu in Windows saves a lot of time performing various actions. Not everything you may want is included though. Here’s how to add the Copy and Move To Folder commands to the Context menu in Windows 7.

There are several cool commands you can access from the Context menu by right clicking an item. Not everything you might want is available though. With a Registry hack you can add customized commands. Here’s how to add Copy and Move To Folder options to the Context Menu in Windows 7.

Right click an item and you’ll see the various commands you can use like Send To, Open With, Delete and more. Including programs you’ve installed that add a command to the Context Menu like Send to Kindle.

Note: This process requires hacking the Registry. Before making any changes to the Registry – Back it up first.

First, click Start and type: regedit into the search field and hit Enter on the keyboard.
Start Menu

The Registry Editor comes up. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers.

Right click on the ContextMenuHandlers folder and select New >> Key.

Regedit path

A new folder appears. Copy or type in the following:

{C2FBB630-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}

reg code

Now, right click ContextMenuHandlers again and select New >> Key. This time copy or type the following:

{C2FBB631-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}

Once you’re done, you will see both of the new keys you entered in. It will look like this.

Move to Folder Key

Close out of the Registry – no reboot required. Right click on an item and you’ll see both Move To Folder and Copy To Folder commands on the Context menu.

New Context Menu Commands

When you click the new Copy or Move to Folder command, a Windows Explorer screen opens. Here I’m moving a PDF document. Navigate to the location where you want to move the item to. Click Move.

    Hi, Great TIP, Is there a way to add a reminder for a file?

    This is a great feature except one thing…The stupid clunking folder tree popup. I would like to see copy to favorites where you can setup favorite folders. I have a frustrated old school boss who doesn’t like to use computers and needs it simple. They should get rid of that folder tree as a default.
