Windows 8 search lets you to pin and hide apps on the search bar. This allows you to organize your most commonly used apps closer to the search field and access them more quickly.
Hit Windows Key + C to display the Charms bar and click Search. Under the Search box are Apps, Settings and Files, then a list of other Windows 8 apps installed on your system.
To change the order of the apps, right click an app in the list and click Pin or Hide.
Here I pinned three apps to the top of the list and hid a few others. You can experiment with this and get the list customized how you like.
This is a simple but effective tip to make Windows 8 more customized and easier to use.
