Earlier this week the Microsoft Outlook blog announced the release of an update to the Outlook Social Connector. The update lets you connect to Facebook via a secure https connection.
The Outlook Social Connector integrates your contacts and email in outlook with status updates from your social networks in one central location.
Navigate to the Microsoft Download Center and download the 32 or 64-bit version of Outlook Social Connector for Facebook.
Installation is straight-forward following the install wizard. If you don’t have the first version of the Add-In, the installer will add it for you.
After it’s installed, log into your Facebook account.
There you go. You now have the updated version of Outlook Facebook Connector. Enjoy the extra security.
This Outlook Add-In update works on XP SP3 and up. and Outlook 2003 and up.
If you don’t want the update or want to uninstall the Add-In completely, check out our article here.

I don’t think I like where this is going. I looks like Facebook wants to publish a persons inclusive daily activities to everyone they know. There are people and entities on my contacts list that have no business knowing my daily activities. My biggest problem is that “on” is “default” and you have to do research and search multiple check boxes to get your life private. This is not just Facebook. I was on a sit not long ago and was going to comment on the article. I got a message that if I signed in, I was giving permission for the site to “use all my contacts”. I cancelled.
