Open a Shared Office Web App Document on Your Desktop

Microsoft Office Web Apps lets you work on your documents from virtually anywhere. But sometimes you need the full power of the Office suite to edit them. Here’s how to open Web Apps on your desktop in Office 2013.

With Microsoft new revamped SkyDrive, Office Web Apps and Office 2013 suite, you’re able to share and edit docs easily from virtually anywhere. Sometimes you’ll need the full power of the actual Office program on your desktop to make more complex edits than what Web Apps provides.

When someone shares a document with you via email, click the link to open the document in SkyDrive.

You’ll need to log in to your SkyDrive account if not already, then the document will open in Web Apps in Read only view. Click Edit Document >> Edit in Word.

A new Windows comes up notifying you some files are harmful, since you know the person sending this document, click Yes.

Then it will open in the version of Word you have installed, in this case it’s Word 2013.

Now you can continue to work on the document with the all of the features of the Office suite.
