This was bound to happen at some point: the Playboy catalogue is set to make its way onto the iPad in March. The news comes directly from Playboy founder Hugh Hefner’s Twitter account, so it’s as official as it can get.
“Big news! Playboy–both old & new–will be available on iPad beginning in March.”, the Tweet says.
Hef also says that the whole magazine will be included, from the first issue to the latest, quite a treat for the magazine’s fans. Also, in reply to a question from one of his followers, the Playboy founder has said that the magazine won’t be censored.
What remains to be seen is how this will be done? – Via Safari Browser, or will there be an app? Because if an app is on its way, that app would violate the Mac App Store review guidelines. The guidelines prohibit pornographic material on the App store (a name Microsoft won’t let Apple copyright).
Here’s a quote from the guidelines:
“Apps containing pornographic material, defined by Webster’s Dictionary as “explicit descriptions or displays of sexual organs or activities intended to stimulate erotic rather than aesthetic or emotional feelings”, will be rejected”.
Could it get clearer than that? Of course, some consider Playboy pictures art, but I’m not sure Steve Jobs is among those people… I’ve always said, you know porn when you see it but, I guess that’s in the eye of the beholder.
I’m quite curious to see how this works out… Just kidding.
