One of the cool things included in a Microsoft Surface running Windows RT is it has a USB slot. This makes it easy to import photos and video from a iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Note: This allows you to transfer photos and video stored locally on your iOS device, but not from your Photo Stream. For that you’ll need a full version of Windows. For on that, check out my article on how to make Apple iCloud work on Windows.

The AutoPlay message pops up and asks what you what to do with the device. Tap or check Import Photos and Videos.

Import Photos and Videos

The files from your device will be displayed on the Surface screen. Tap the ones you want to import and then tap the Import button.

Import Files

Success. Your pictures and videos from your device are imported into a new folder with the current date in the Picture folder.

Imported done

Not too difficult. But if you were wondering if your Apple devices will work with Windows RT or, of course, Windows 8 – the process is painless.
