If for some odd reason you ever need to find out which version of OFfice 2010 your running and how it was originally activated on your computer, you should bookmark this post so you can refer back to it when that tech support / sales dork asks you a question you never thought you would ever need the answer for…
The gist, Microsoft included a visual basic script that will automatically output the activation type as well as the license status for your Office 2010 install. The process only takes a couple of steps, but you need to know where to look.
Step 1
Click the Start Menu Orb and Type cmd into the search box. Right-Click the cmd.exe result and Select Run as administrator.*
*Holy smokes, it seems like we are ALWAYS running cmd as an administrator! Check out this How-To to learn how to automatically launch it as an administrator, then you can skip the right-clicks!
Step 2
Now we need to navigate to the folder that Office 2010 was installed to on your computer. The installation folder of Office 2010 will vary depending on whether your system and office are 32 bit or 64 bit. If you need to know what version of Windows 7 you are running, read this.
A. Matching Versions
- For 64 bit versions of Windows 7 with 64 bit versions of Office Installed
- For 32 bit versions of Windows 7 with 32 bit versions of Office Installed
Paste the following command into cmd to navigate to the folder.
cd \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14 |
B. Mismatched 32 bit and 64 bit
- For 64 bit versions of Windows 7 with 32 bit versions of Office installed.
Paste the following command into cmd to navigate to the folder.
cd \ProgramFiles(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14 |
Step 3
Now that you are in the correct folder, Type or Paste the following into cmd.
cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus |
Wait about 20 seconds for results while the script processes. Results will display in the window.
Done!
Now you can check type of Office 2010 that you are running. Now you can put your mind at rest, or fix any problems that arise (pirated copy, wrong versoin, etc…).
