How to Convert a PNG to PDF on Windows

A PNG image file isn’t a great way to store a document file on your PC. If you want to know how to convert a PNG to PDF on Windows, follow these steps.

If you’ve scanned a document into your PC, you may find that it’s been saved as a PNG image, and not the more standard PDF. If this happens, you’ll need to know how to convert a PNG to PDF on a Windows PC.

A good way to do this is to use virtual printer mode on Windows. The virtual printer converts the image into a PDF file when you print something via an app like Microsoft Word. You can then save the file, print a physical copy, or upload it to cloud storage.

The steps to convert PNGs to PDFs are virtually the same with Windows 10 and Windows 11. Here’s how to convert a PNG to PDF on Windows.

How to Convert a PNG to PDF on Windows

It doesn’t matter whether you’re trying to convert PNG files to PDFs on Windows 10 or 11—the steps should look very similar. We’ve used Windows 10 below, but you won’t see much difference on a Windows 11 PC.

To convert a PNG to PDF on Windows:

  1. Start by locating the PNG you want to convert and right-click it in Windows Explorer or on your desktop.

  3. When the Print Pictures window opens, select Microsoft Print to PDF from the dropdown.

  5. In the Print Pictures Windows right sidebar, you have the option to change how your PNG image appears in the PDF. Click an option to view its preview on the left.
  6. At the bottom of the Print Pictures windows, you can specify the number of pages you want in your PDF using the Copies for Each Option. Enable the Fit Picture to Frame option to make your photo fit the PDF.
