How to Disable Recommendations on Chromecast with Google TV

By default, the Google TV home screen displays recommendations and other items. But if you would prefer a clutter-free interface you can enable Apps Only mode.

The Chromecast with Google TV is different than a typical Chromecast dongle. It has a self-contained operating system called Google TV with its own interface and it includes a remote. It’s a device that works more like a Fire TV, Roku, or Apple TV. You no longer need a phone or tablet to stream content to your TV. The home screen displays featured items and trending items. It also features a top row with categories like “Apps,” “For You,” “Library,” and more. And there are steps you can take to move items on the Google TV home screen.

If you’re happy with it you can improve recommendations on Googe TV. But if you find all that content clutters up your home screen and you would rather just see your installed apps you can. You just need to turn on “Apps Only” mode. If you would prefer a less cluttered home screen interface here’s how to do it.

Remove Recommendations on Google TV

To get started grab your remote and navigate to your profile icon at the top right of the home screen.

The home screen is a lot cleaner with extra clutter that you may not want. And would rather that it be removed. Only the installed apps will appear on the home screen.
