This week’s free app is the platform puzzler illi. Normally it’s $3, but you can get it free from iTunes until Thursday, July 27th.
What Is It?
This game combines the classic platformer approach, like Sonic the Hedgehog, and gives you some puzzles to solve along the way. All of this taking place in the Upside Down. Your goal is to get illi to the next level in a minimum number of jumps and collect the maximum number of crystals. When you make a mistake, the red background tells you illi is no more.
As you move through the game, the puzzles and obstacles get a bit harder. Some paths require long jumps and others require short jumps. It’s tricky but moves fast. Here’s the description of the game from the developer, Set Snail:
Here’s the description of the game from the developer, Set Snail:
illi is a polished one button platform puzzler. As the creature illi, you jump your way through a strange world where gravity follows you! Things you take for granted in your world is different here. illi travels through portals and enters barren worlds where she gathers light crystals that remain. The creature illi can bend the fabrics of the world and make gravity-defying jumps. Each new unique world introduces new mechanics, traps and obstacles, which will make each world a bigger and more difficult task than the last.
– Brain-melting arcade-puzzle-platformer.
– Play as the fluffy, slug-goatish creature, illi.
– Travel through a beautiful, surrealistic universe.
– Take on 60 gravity defying levels!
– Over 170 quest’s to be completed.
Who Is It Good For?
I’m not a fan of platformer games because the quests tend to be long. Most levels here need to be finished in less than 15 seconds or else red splat. The game is fine for kids, but they’ll need some problem-solving skills and spatial orientation.
The game has 60 levels, so it should entertain easily for a few hours. Once done though, there’s no in-app purchase for more levels.
Should You Download It?
It’s only 158MB, so it shouldn’t take up much space on your iOS device. I’m keeping this one to add a little variety to pass the time. This won’t keep the kids entertained on a long road trip but might occupy them until the next rest stop.
