Earlier, I gave a rather ebullient guided tour of Windows Live Sync Beta 2011 (which will be known as Windows Live Mesh when it is officially released), touting its groovy potential as a backup tool and cloud storage solution. But since that brief honeymoon phase, I’ve had a chance to move in some of my stuff and I’ll have to admit that I’m having trouble getting comfortable. It seems that much of the pampering I’ve received from old faithful Dropbox has given me some pretty high expectations when it comes to cloud-based syncing and in spite of my optimistic review, I think I’m going to have to stick with Dropbox—for now. Like many of you groovySystem Admins out there, I never like to introduce a new product to the corporate environment until the release of a major Service Pack. I guess that’s why I’m pretty excited to see that Microsoft just released Exchange 2010 SP1 a few days ago. It’s going to be a longgg weekend for me now!

Things are getting mighty cloudy over at Microsoft—and the addition of Sync to the Windows Live Essentials suite is making life in the clouds easier than ever. The latest version of Windows Live Sync is seriously upping the ante in the world of automated folder syncing and cloud storage. At first glance, it seems that the frontiers pioneered by the likes of Dropbox and Google Docs just might be tamed, civilized and finally be made accessible and intuitive for the masses by Microsoft. Hey, did you know that you can link applications to Dropbox? I didn’t. Partially because there’s not a peep on-site about the capability until you add an application to your Dropbox account. And partially because I never thought Dropbox needed any add-ons to attain killer status. But the makers of AirDropper did. That’s why they’ve recently rolled out a beta of their handy dandy file request web app.

Back in February we reviewed the Google Calendar Sync plug-in for Microsoft Outlook 2003 and 2007 and today we have good news for Outlook 2010 users! Google just announced their Google Calendar Sync version 0.9.3.6 now supports 32-bit versions of Microsoft Outlook 2010. Unfortunately, 64-bit versions of Outlook 2010 is still not supported.

When it comes to Photo and Image Editing / Manipulation, there really isn’t a better application that Adobe Photoshop. Photographers and Creative studios will agree it’s the premier photo editing application Period.
Unfortunately, Photoshop also comes with a steep learning curve and a premium price tag which for must of us is overkill considering we will never use 1/3 of the features packed into Photoshop.
