Fix Dell Sound Issues after Windows Vista SP1 RC1 Upgrade
Jan 10th, 2008 by MrGroove
It didn’t take long to run into my first issue after I upgraded my Dell Latitude D620 to Windows Vista SP1 RC1. After the final reboot, my Sound Card quit working. When I noticed it, I tried to adjust my sound but Vista told me "No Sound Device Present".
Just for the sake of testing, I reboot my notebook but the problem didn’t resolve itself. Fortunately, the fix was groovy and I didn’t even have to scrub the DELL site for new drivers.
1) Click the Windows Start Button and in the Start Search box, Type device and Press Enter Key
2) Click the Plus Sign next to the Sound, video and game controllers category, Right Click the High Definition Audio Device and Click Uninstall
3) Click OK when confirmation box appears
4) Right Click Computer Name at Top of Device Manager and Click Scan for Hardware changes
All Done!
The High Definition Audio Device should once again show your sound card and everything should be work again.

Welcome to the site Alex and thank you for the feedback!
I have bad news for you all. There is still a problem with the X-Fi driver with Vista SP1 RTM. Sound crackling etc. It seems that Creative will need to release a new driver to fix this.
I am having sound problems after the upgrade too. Thanks for this site.

hope it helps.
that fixed my problem also, ty…
I had the same problem after installing SP1. Thanks to your post it is fixed now.
Thanks, Mr. Groove. That fixed my problem too. I noticed that the new device driver was the latest version whereas the pre-SP1 upgrade version was older. No worries. Sound is just fine now.
