i have the same problem. i unistalled the audio device on high def audio bus like you said but it still has a yellow triangle with ! mark over it. windows also says it need to install device driver for hd audio bus but when i click it, it just goes through process and says installing driver software AND THEN says failed because timeout period expired.

ALSO WHEN I GO INTO DEVICE MANAGER I DONT SEE A SOUND, VIDEO AND GAME CONTROLLERS TAB, I JUST SEE AUDIO DEVICE on HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO BUS.

HD AUDIO IS ENABLED IN BIOS.
SERIAL NUMBER FOR MY PC IS 728045770336 – just incase you need it for troubleshooting etc.

iv tried many of ways and still no joy. please please help as i miss my music lol i have even burned most of it just to play it through stereo etc.

thanks for this forum, i have same problem with everyother member. i update vista sp1 and sound stop working. install vista few times but cant help. uninstall driver few times as well as. but coundn’t work. pls help if any one got idea. how to fix

This does not seem to fix my problem. I used to have some sound, but do not seem to have any now. Help. Dell Inspiron 530 running Vista since new in July 2008.

Thanks, Mr. Groove. That fixed my problem too. I noticed that the new device driver was the latest version whereas the pre-SP1 upgrade version was older. No worries. Sound is just fine now.

i have a Dell laptop and recently installed the sp1 update. i also had the audio driver problem. i tried rollback and system restore, but they didn’t work. i did this instead: http://dot08.wordpress.com/2008/05/03/windows-vista-sp1-audio-driver-glitch-possible-solution/
