Just about a day after Microsoft ended support for Windows XP Service Pack 2, Microsoft also ended support for Windows Server 2000. Is anyone still running Win2k? Anyway, getting rid of the technical debt required to keep releasing patches and provide support to these grandpa OS’s is sure to help Microsoft as it drives forward with its relevant products so all in all, good news!
It’s interesting that all the drop in support which has been public knowledge for a LONG TIME coincides with the release of the Windows 7 SP1 Beta and Server 2008 R2 SP1 Beta but not interesting enough to think very hard on.
Anyway, if your one of those shops whose running old ancient Microsoft products, feel free to use this link to review the Microsoft support timelines / life-cycles for all of Microsoft’s products.
