Apple iCloud: Upgrade iPhoto to Fix Photo Streaming Not Available

If you’re running OS X Lion, set up iCloud and see Photo Streaming is not available, you’ll need to upgrade. Here’s how.

iCloud Control Panel

To find the version of iPhoto you have installed, click iPhoto >> About iPhoto.

About iPhoto

The version you’re running will display. Here I’m running 8.1.2 – an upgrade is required.

Version 8

Open the Apple Mac Store and search for iPhoto.

Mac App Store

Because the upgrade is from version 8 it’s not free. Click Buy.

Wait while iPhoto ‘11 installs. It will take several minutes – the download is 727MB.

When the new version is done installing, relaunch iPhoto. A message will come up saying the photo library needs upgraded. Click Upgrade.

Upgrade Library

From the Menu bar click  iPhoto >> Preferences.

You’ll now see the Photo Stream icon is now available. Check all three options to enable Photo Stream, Automatic Import and Automatic Upload.

Photo Stream

In iCloud setup Photo Streaming is now available.

iCloud Settings

You’ll have to purchase the latest version of iPhoto it to get Photo Streaming to work with OS X. But now the Photo Streaming feature will work with your iDevices and your Mac.

I upgraded iphoto to iphoto ’11. An option to enable photo stream still doesn’t appear.

Any and all help would be appreciated.
