Can't start IMAP4 on Exchange server

Hey everyone,

hoping you can help me (a new exchange admin....)

I have a microsoft exchange server 2003 and I'm trying to get IMAP to work for my iPhone users.

When I go into Exchange System Manager and find the IMAP4 Protocol, I right click on it and click start. After about 30 seconds I get error:

The Service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
Check Windows Event Viewer for Details.

I checked the event logs but there is nothing in them. Any ideas?

By default the IMAP service is disabled. Go into the services MMC and make sure the service: Microsoft Exhcnage IMAP4 is set to Automatic. Then go back into the Exchange Admin tool and start the IMAP4 Virtual Server.
