Upgrade mySQL database for website

Postby poneil » Thu Jan 10, 2008 4:37 pm

I'm running a "really" old version of mySQL for my personal box. I've been doing a lot of reading but there's not really anything that mentions what the process is to upgrade. Anyone? groovyDude?

Thanks!

i've done it a thousand times on my windows 2003 box. Just make a copy of all the databases (located in the mysql\data folder), uninstall mySQL and reinstall the new version of mysql.

Once your running the new version of mySQL, just copy the databases back into the \data folder and you should be golden.

Like I said, I've done it a million times with no problem.

Note:If you keep the mysql database you shouldn't have to recreate all the user perms or accounts either.

This is an old post but, let me know if you have any issues.

yup yup yup. Completed the upgrade the same way even from mySQL 4.x to 5.x with no issues. Just moved over all the databases (including the config. databases with user accounts and perms). Slid them into the 5.x install on a new box and BOOM - upgraded.
