Warner Bros. Goes With Blue-Ray And Drops HD-DVD
Jan 8th, 2008 by MrGroove
So it looks like HD-DVD "could" go the way of the dodo. The question is, does it really matter?
1) At $350.00 a player I for one won’t be running to Costco to grab a unit
2) I have no plans (and I’ll be the masses agree with me) on replacing my collection of DVD’s any time soon like I did when I cut-over from VHS. The quality bump just doesn’t justify it.
3) The last 3 movies I watched at home were actually "downloaded" using the new Tivo / Amazon Unbox service AND then there’s the new TIVO service where you can just download movies for free to your PC (limited content here but it’s growing) then there’s the Apple and Microsoft services.
All in all, even with the "Sony" win, it’s going to be a HARD path especially when vendors like Yamaha and Panasonic etc… are building iPod cradles into their Players and TV’s…. It’s going to be an interested 12 months!
