Russia Wages Cyber-War with Georgia
Aug 11th, 2008 by MrGroove
Love or hate me, I’m not political and therefore will not take sides in the recent war between Russia & Georgia . I did however want to comment on a recent article from the Atlantic-Community.org blog which mentions that Russia is not only attacking by Air, Ground and Sea but also Via Cyber-Space.
The Georgian government is forced to fight not only on the ground but also virtually. Late on Friday evening Georgian government websites came under a cyber attack. A similar thing happened to Estonians a year ago when they were trying to resolve conflicting issues with Russia. Not only government but also mass media websites ceased to work due to this and still have not recovered. It has been done with one purpose - to cause chaos in the country, people not being able to follow the news, government not being able to communicate and post statements.
I guess it was only a matter of time before the Cyber-War played a key role in conflicts between nations. My guess is that will spawn an entirely new generation of Mercenaries. Black-Hat for hire! Hmm.. I wonder if Russia will target me next and declare eWar on groovyPost.com because I wrote this article?
I wonder if Cyber-Peace Keeping troops will be next? Who would that be? United Nations? MSRC?
