Well……
After much thought, I’m going to be dropping our current forum and begin work building out something new. Although I like the fully featured forum phpBB, I’ve yet to see a good way to integrate it into wordpress. The most obvious forum to use will be bbPress however….. I’m not exactly thrilled with it’s lack of features.
Anyway, stay tuned and please provide your thoughts once I launch the new forum.
Thanks!

YAHOO!!! What’s up with ALL THAT SPAM??? Sorry, this is one of those VENTING posts, I need to get it out…
Ok, so here’s the deal. I have about 10 different email accounts (yeah… I know) which I check at least once a day. They vary from my Work Corp. address to my personal / business email addresses. More than 50% of them are hosted with one of the 3 Free Online Email Systems:
- Mail.Yahoo.com
- Live.com / Hotmail.com
- GMail.com
What really frustrates me is out of all my accounts, my Yahoo! Accounts are the ONLY ones which are ALWAYS plum full of SPAM. Take a look:

A few weeks ago, The Register (one of my favorite sites) wrote a great article about a Security Exploit in Safari 3.1.2. Very nasty little guy and according to the Article

Not very happy with Microsoft OR myself for that matter….. After working about 2 hours on a new Article last night for groovyPost.com, I got sidetracked and left the article for this morning. Unfortunately, when I got back to my notebook (Vista Enterprise…..) this morning the screen was black and completely unresponsive. Had to hold down the power button and do a full reboot (Thanks Dell/Microsoft).

Wow… Have I mentioned I love Google Stock? Did anyone listen to me and dump the stock at $666.00 a share in November? Luckily I bought the stock back at $430 because today’s 2008 Q1 Earnings release has caused the stock to JUMP in after hours trading:
WOW! So… the question now is, when do we sell……..

Guess I wasn’t paying attention. While I was approving the April Security updates from Microsoft. I noticed a new Windows Live Writer update MS KB951125. It’s a small update which fixes 4 bugs. I only found it as I was approving updates on our Corp. WSUS server. Being that the update is targeted at GOOGLE users (Picaca/Blogger) it’s impact for me is null however there might be someone out there who will be helped so here’s the details:

Well that didn’t take long….. After only having Windows Server 2008 x64 Enterprise installed for a few weeks, I already need to begin patching the new OS with security updates. Indeed… That’s what I thought.
Included in Microsoft’s "Super Tuesday" Patch Cycle (2nd Tuesday of every month) came 4 new Security updates for Windows Server 2008. Although Microsoft labeled them as "Important", several are pretty nasty.

Details:

If your running the Hyper-V role on your Windows Server 2008 box, you should take a look at a recent update from Microsoft and get it installed. The update contains several fixes and improvements for both the Hyper-V Host Server and the Guest VM’s (including a fix for Remote Mouse control!!!!).

Had an interesting time today trying to install the latest version of Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) in my environment. Things started out well. I approved the WSUS 3.0 SP1 update on my WSUS 3.0 Server and my Vista client (where I have the client WSUS Admin Tools installed) immediately notified me that the SP1 update was available for WSUS 3. Without thinking (perhaps I should update the server first….) I clicked INSTALL and tadaa, a reboot and I was upgraded.
My server on the other hand didn’t pickup the SP1 update from "itself…." and when I hit Windows Update on the Microsoft site it didn’t pickup there either.?.? I’m guessing it’s because I’m running R2 of Windows Server 2003?

Oh well, no matter. I grabbed the update from HERE and manually updated my WSUS server. Just bounced the box and ALL is well.
NOT a groovy experience MickySoft

Yes it’s true… In all my excitement I failed to test my inbound port 80 for a few days after getting my new Verizon Internet connection installed. But alas… it’s true. Verizon doesn’t like people to run home web servers so they decided to block Port 80.
After speaking with Verizon for ~5 hours and speaking with dozens of tech’s and managers (1/2 of the didn’t even know what a computer was…) I discovered that IF you want incoming Port 80 opened, you need to buy a staic IP on a Business account with for me, would have been ~ $135.00 a month. Being that I only use my home web servers for Family Galleries (lots and lots of photos and movies which I don’t want to pay hosting fees for) I really didn’t need it so… After about 15 minutes of DNS and Apache reconfiguration, my family site was once again back on the air (thanks to DNS redirection) and port 8080. The G-Parents could once again get to the Family site!!!!
All in all, VERY annoying. So, if ANYONE out there is running a site from home using DSL or Cable, you better think long and hard before cutting over to FIOS because you will need to either use a new port for your site (Search Engines don’t index anything other than port 80) or find a hosting provider to host your site.
Very Very UN-GROOVY
