Get Virtual Now – Microsoft Virtualization Launch Event

Today I attended the Microsoft Get Virtual Now Product launch / product showcase in Bellevue Washington.
I didn’t bring my notebook, just my iPhone so we will see how this blog post turns out (using the iPhone Worspress App.)

During one of the Keynote sessions, Bob Muglia announced the release of Hyper-V Server 2008 as a free download. The product is a command line VERY thin HyperVisor based on Microsoft Hyper-V technology. Obviously the release is a counter to VMWare’s free ESXi HyperVisor. According to Bob, the product will be available for download in 30 days
Bob also announced and performed a live demo of the much anticipated and LATE “V-Motion” like technology which Microsoft calls “Live Migration”. Unfortunately, Hyper-V Live Migration will not be available for sometime. Possibly Windows Server 2008 R2 or later…
