Are you stuck trying to decide whether or not you want to jump on board with the new Microsoft Office 2010? You’re not alone! When you consider the concurrent and less expensive alternatives it can make Office look like that overpriced navigation system with features and functionality you might never use. But if you or your organization is serious about business, Office 2010 deserves a serious look as the new bells and whistles are quite impressive.

While it may not be quite as functional as Sharepoint, the Microsoft Live Groups service is looking better and better especially with the recent launch of the Office 2010 Web Apps on Tuesday. Granted, I still think it’s a long way off before I’d call it a Google Docs / Apps killer however I think the platform is well on it’s way to becoming more than just a party planning tool.

Last weekend Microsoft unveiled a number of training kits, and a discussion has already been started in the groovy forum on the new SharePoint Dev Training Kit. Even bigger news however is the Office 2010 Dev Training Kit, and while it may not seem as glamorous as being an “Appstore”, it certainly is a nice package for anyone to pick up and start playing with Office 2010 Dev. Checking it out, it’s actually a nice kit and easy to get started with.

As promised, Microsoft made available Office 2010 Professional Plus for download for all MSDN subscribers yesterday. If you have a subscription you can grab either the x64 (64-bit) or x86 (32-bit) which are both around the same size (700 megs).

Microsoft announced on Friday the final release dates for Office 2010, Sharepoint 2010, Visio 2010 and Project 2010. I talked about this a few months back but in a recent blog post from Microsoft, they finally shored up the dates a bit now that the Office 2010 code has gone RTM.

On Friday, Microsoft announced the dates they will be releasing Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010. April 2010 the products will go RTM and probably made available to Technet / MSDN / MLVS etc… And May 12th, 2010 is the big “official day” of release.
