Things are getting mighty cloudy over at Microsoft—and the addition of Sync to the Windows Live Essentials suite is making life in the clouds easier than ever. The latest version of Windows Live Sync is seriously upping the ante in the world of automated folder syncing and cloud storage. At first glance, it seems that the frontiers pioneered by the likes of Dropbox and Google Docs just might be tamed, civilized and finally be made accessible and intuitive for the masses by Microsoft. Back in early July Microsoft, released Windows Live Essentials Beta 2011 which included some really groovy upgrades over their exiting Live Essentials platform. On Tuesday, Microsoft announced that it had updated Windows Live Essentials 2011 beta to address some of the feedback and suggestions from early adopters. This latest “refresh” of the beta mostly includes performance improvements, but a few new features have been rolled out as well. Here are the highlights posted on the Windows Team Blog.

“Woah a new ribbon!” That was the first thing I thought after opening up one of the programs from the new Windows Live Essentials Beta. Anyway, Microsoft just released Wave 4 of their Windows Live Essentials Beta and I have to admit, things are look very very good. I’ve been keeping my eye on the Windows Live blog ever since their post back in June when they announced some of the new features of the upcoming Windows Live Essentials refresh so being able to finally grab a copy and get under the hood is exciting.

Windows Live Mail is an effective yet simple program from Microsoft for managing your email, calendars, feeds, contacts, and newsgroups. In Windows Vista it runs flawlessly and has nearly all of the features you would want and expect. However, when you try using it in Windows 7 the “minimize to system tray” option is just… missing! Let’s fix that.

Are you stuck trying to decide whether or not you want to jump on board with the new Microsoft Office 2010? You’re not alone! When you consider the concurrent and less expensive alternatives it can make Office look like that overpriced navigation system with features and functionality you might never use. But if you or your organization is serious about business, Office 2010 deserves a serious look as the new bells and whistles are quite impressive.

We recently talked about a great freeware data backup / sync service called Dropbox! As mentioned in the write-up, the free account on Dropbox gives you only 2 Gigs of free space which you can sync across all your computers (PC/MAC). Although that’s pretty good, tonight i’m going to show you a few quick ways to get even more free space!
